It’s the final week of November, the Christmas adverts are on the tv and Black Friday Weekend V2. The Covid addition has just begun. It’s safe to say this year has felt like a whirlwind – or a corona-coaster if you prefer but some things are still feeling very familiar. One of those things being the Mc&T team getting excited to secure coverage for our clients in this newfound media climate and we certainly haven’t disappointed this week! Let’s jump in, shall we?
Check Your Drawers with giffgaff
This week giffgaff launched their ‘Check your drawers’ campaign after surveying 2,300 adults from 20 cities to find out just how many old mobile devices are in each home.
The research revealed that there are 55 million phones sitting in drawers, with households in London, Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds and Manchester seeing more old mobile phones lying unused than anywhere else in the UK. Eeek!
With this mind giffgaff launched an anti-consumerist campaign in collaboration with LADbible and UNILAD inviting people to ‘Check Your Drawers’ for old mobile phones that could be refurbished for cash, recycled or giving people the option to donate money from their old handsets to community causes. This celebration of the circular economy for mobile phones landed a plethora of coverage including national newspapers and bloggers who were inspired to take part in the campaign. Get in.
